When I was a kid, I dreamed of announcing new books. Authors were the biggest celebrities of my world, and what could be more exciting?
Now, that excitement still feels electric, though it comes from a deeper place. There’s something so gratifying about bringing a story into the world that will help and serve our children.
Today, I’m excited to share some big news. This spring, Penguin Random House will publish a new book on Vaisakhi, the largest of Sikh celebrations. It will be published by Kokila, which is the same imprint of PRH that published Fauja Singh Keeps Going. And this new book on Vaisakhi is illustrated by Japneet Kaur, one of my favorite up and coming Sikh artists.
I love Japneet’s art so much, and I am happy to share the cover below. I was thrilled when Japneet agreed to illustrate the book; her aesthetic and style and detail are perfect for this story. In fact, we’re such big fans of Japneet’s work that Gunisha and I ordered prints from Japneet to put up in our home :)
The book cover is below, and there are more images of the illustrations on the book’s Amazon’s site, where the book is also available for preorder.
As with the last picture book, all of this feels like a dream. The book is beautiful and the illustrations are stunning, and our entire team is so brilliant and collaborative, from my agent and editor to the illustrator and designer. I’m excited to share the book when it comes out this spring and promise to have more information about its release and related events once we get closer to Vaisakhi.
For now, thanks for sharing in my joy and excitement. This Vaisakhi is definitely going to be one to remember :)
Awesome news! I'm a friend of Valarie Kaur's. My niece loves "Fauja Singh Keeps Going" and I'll be excited to order this one for her too!
