Guru Fateh!

Welcome to More of This, Please: Sikh Wisdom for Today’s World! I’m your guide, Simran Jeet Singh, a Sikh scholar, activist, and practitioner. I’m also the author of The Light We Give: How Sikh Wisdom Can Transform Your Life (Riverhead / Penguin Random House, 2022).

I’ve spent my life studying and practicing Sikh teachings, and as much as I’ve gained, I have so much more to learn. After all, to be a Sikh is to be a life-long student. It’s a path that requires humility, curiosity, and commitment.

Through my years of research and learning, I have come to believe that the Sikh Gurus had a unique way of looking at the world and that applying just a fraction of their teachings could radically transform our lives. In a world that feels complicated and challenging and scary, Sikh wisdom is a balm for our lives. The insights are for everyone, whether you identify as Sikh or not — and that’s why I’m committed to making this space inclusive for everyone. It’s also why I’m so grateful to have you here.

In addition to being the author of The Light We Give: How Sikh Wisdom Can Transform Your Life, I’m also the author of the best-selling children’s book, Fauja Singh Keeps Going: The True Story of the Oldest Person to Ever Run a Marathon. I’m the Executive Director for the Aspen Institute’s Religion & Society Program, where I work to help advance religious pluralism and equity. I have degrees from Columbia, Harvard, and Trinity, and I wrote my dissertation on the Puratan Janamsakhi, the earliest account of Guru Nanak’s life. I feel privileged and blessed to live a life of seva (selfless service), and I’m hopeful that this community will be of service to you too.
