Hi Friends,
I stepped away from social media for the past few months, and I have to say what you already guessed. It’s been kind of nice.
The past few months have reminded me of what I noticed when the pandemic first hit in 2020. Spending less time online can mean spending more time with my family, colleagues, and community. Back then, it was by necessity. This time, it’s been by choice. In both cases, I've loved that experience and what it’s enabled. And at the same time, I’ve missed connecting with friends and community online.
One of my goals for 2024 is to find more balance in all things. This includes the time I spend online and on social media. I don’t intend to shut out the world. I want to be more present in my day-to-day life. Living with balance requires thoughtfulness and discipline and real commitment.
I also hope to spend more time this year doing what I love. This means reflecting, writing, and teaching. And in the best of cases, I’ll blend all three of these at once.
I'm hoping to do more of this in various forms and styles, in ways that engage and challenge me, and in ways that feel fun. I will continue writing books and articles, and I aim to use this platform on Substack as a regular home to share new stories, ideas, and insights. If you know people who might be interested, please feel free to forward this message and invite them to subscribe.
I’m grateful to all of you who have reached out in the past few months to check in, and to all of you who understand that there's a lot more to our lives than what we see on these platforms.
I'm thankful for all that has come and all that is — and I look forward to sharing our lives together this year and in the years ahead.
Much love,
Simran
I’m so glad that you took a step back & reevaluated your priorities. Perhaps you can help the rest of us think in that manner, as well.
Simram, I often read obituaries to learn what others think is important about someone’s life. It’s fine to include a CV, but the most meaningful ones dwell mainly on love for family & friends!
