Updates!
Lots going on, Lots to share!
An Update on Marathon Training
I’ll admit it. Signing up for a marathon in honor of Fauja Singh was pretty ambitious. I haven’t run a marathon in seven years. And every time I’d start to get back into it, I would somehow get hurt, and then have to start all over.
That happened again two months ago, and I was so frustrated that I didn’t even want to tell anyone about it. I was out for a long run in Barcelona, and three miles in, my achilles gave out. I had to limp my way back home.
I’ve spent the past two months rehabbing and strength training and trying to make it all work. I wasn’t sure I could, because the timeline was so tight. But after a few great 8-milers last week, and a tough 14-miler last weekend, I was starting to feel more confident.
Then, yesterday I went out for a 16-mile run in Central Park, and it felt gooooood. I’m so relieved and happy and proud, and finally after so many years, I feel like I’m ready to run the NYC Marathon. Here’s hoping that my body continues to agree with me!
An Update on the TV Show
We’re continuing to make progress on UNDIVIDED. We’ve shot three episodes and will begin shooting our fourth episode on the Sikh American experience in California this weekend. I’m super excited because the show has been a long, labor of love, and it really is coming together beautifully.
We also did an interview for The Revealer on what the show has been like and why it has meant so much to me. I’ll share a link to her piece here.
I’m also thrilled to share that we’ve received a generous offer to match all donations to the show. We’re still fundraising for it, and we’d welcome any support. Click here to donate.
An Update on Events
Lots of events going on right now! If you’re in New York City on Thursday evening, come out to Union Seminary. I’ll be in conversation with some awesome people, including Qasim Rashid and Brittany Packnett Cunningham, to talk about faith, justice, and public life in crisis. Click here to sign up for free, in-person or virtual.
If you’re not in NYC on Thursday, join me online as I interview Sukhman Dhami from Ensaaf, about Sikhi and Human Rights. Click here to register.
An Update on Books
I signed a contract for a new graphic novel with Penguin Random House. It’s a new genre for me and will be fun to explore. Another book—an edited volume on religious pluralism with Oxford University Press—just went into production.
I also wrote a piece for Shepherd on the top books I recommend for building compassion. It was fun to build that list, and it’s always fun to lift up writers who I think are doing good work. You can check that list out here.

Dear Simran, I loved your book THE LIGHT WE GIVE and I used it a couple years ago already for my Interfaith Book Club. I like your Book List as well. I am a Catholic priest working in Interfaith Relations in Manhattan. I hope to meet you at Union someday. Meanwhile, you may want to take a look at Jhumpa Lahiri's short story collection INTERPRETER OF MALADIES. Inspiring!
how I envy your energy!! It's so good to read about what you are doing... I can't tell you enough how much I miss the Union community
